Instead of using $1 BILLION to help our country's crumby economy, we're drilling to the mantle of Earth. If we were to strike oil or use something that we find down there for a new power source, that'd reverse my point of view on this topic, but as of now I'm against it wholeheartedly. They'd be drilling through the oceanic crust 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) to reach the core. I wouldn't be so upset about the matter if they didn't have poor reasons, like holding clues to our origin and the evolution of the planet. Some scientists are comparing it to that of the Apollo Moon missions, which I also find to be a waste of money along with NASA in general.

Well, science is science and it goes as it goes. Eventually, someone will want to go to the middle of the planet. It's much closer then mars by the way. ;) Eh, my opinion is well, it's worth a try.
